Radioprotection & Radon
One of IAT's historic competencies. Physical surveillance, authorisations, dosimetry, shielding and radiometric monitoring for healthcare, industry, research and waste management — in Italy and, for specific contracts, abroad.

What we do
The Radioprotection unit takes on Radiation Protection Expert appointments and supports employers and licence holders across the technical, administrative and inspection obligations of the peaceful use of sources and X-ray equipment: from licensing to periodic physical surveillance, from dosimetry to radioactive waste management.
We design shielding and radiometric control systems for waste-treatment plants, foundries, scrap recycling, customs and ports, and support the design of diagnostic-imaging departments.

The problems we address
- 01
“I use X-ray equipment (radiology, dentistry, veterinary, industry) and must appoint a Radiation Protection Expert.”
- 02
“I handle scrap, waste or incoming materials and must guarantee radiometric surveillance.”
- 03
“I am designing or refurbishing a diagnostic room and need shielding calculations and a technical report.”
- 04
“I need to measure radon in the workplace and understand whether I exceed the reference level.”
How IAT works
- Radiation Protection Experts with experience in healthcare, industry, research and waste management.
- Own instrumentation for measurement, dosimetry and radiometric surveillance.
- Full management of the relationship with the authorities: filings, registers, inspections.

Regulatory framework
- Legislative Decree 101/2020 as amended — implementation of Directive 2013/59/Euratom (basic safety standards against ionising radiation)
- Legislative Decree 81/2008 — coordination with occupational safety
- ADR Agreement for the transport of radioactive materials (class 7)
